Outreach
Finishing the Unfinished Task through... Outreach
We seek to stimulate an enthusiasm for the Gospel in our congregation which overflows to those around them in their everyday lives. We further stimulate the enthusiasm by creatively demonstrating the relevance of the Gospel to people's lives in a variety of ways. We reach beyond our borders through local and world missions. We give financial aid to PCA missionaries, and dedicate ourselves to prayer for those missionaries and their related organizations. We want to be a church of people dedicated to helping others. A willingness to love, give, and serve is encouraged by providing opportunities for mercy ministries under the direction of our deacons. We have developed some specific ministries we hope will complement the individual witness of each of our members:
Faith Promise Missions
Faith Promise Giving is the method by which we support missions, both in our own country and around the world. We are especially committed to the planting of churches on our continent through Mission to North America and around the world through Mission to the World. Both of these are agencies of the Presbyterian Church in America, which is a pacesetter among American churches in fulfilling Christ's command to make disciples of all the nations.
Diaconal Mercy Ministries
As our society continues to decay, we are confronted with growing physical and emotional needs. But the Deacons are finding broader avenues for us to minister to a world in desperate need, and they are finding ways to equip church members to help them minister mercy in the name of Christ.
Truth Troop
Truth Troop is an after school tutoring program, which meets on Wednesday afternoons from 3:45-5:45 p.m. It focuses on teaching math and reading skills to 2nd and 3rd graders from the Penn Hills school district. It is an opportunity for theae students to grow in math and reading proficiency, while also giving them the opportunity to hear the gospel during the Bible lesson time, all the while seeing the love of Christ through the care of the tutors and volunteers.
Seneca Sunday
Seneca Sunday is a ministry for the residents of Seneca Manor Assisted Living here in Penn Hills. On the 2nd Sunday of every month, at 1:30 p.m., we hold a small service for the residents, which includes singing, prayer, and a short message. But at the heart of this ministry are the relationships formed with the residents as we simply sit with them, listen and talk to them, and share the love of Christ with them.
